Itunes Channel Issues
Effect on performance of having media on second drive?
I have just set up a new server (Mac Pro) and have four drives. My media is on a 6TB drive and the OS X software an duplex server on another drive. Performance of the Plex server seems a lot slower than when on my previous machine (an old iMac). Would performance improve if the OS X software, Plex server and media were all on the same drive?
How to manage a large number of media files - one folder or several folders?
What is the best way of managing a large number of media files, does OS X and the Plex server work better if they are split into folders with fewer files or is it OK to keep them in one folder? When you open up a folder with a lot of files it does take a long time so I suspect there is a performance issue?
Incorrect Subtitles for TV Shows
Is anyone else facing an issue where the incorrect subtitles play during a TV Show? I've been facing this issue for the last few months, where the subtitles that belong to a previous episode play for the current one. For example, the subtitles for S03E22 or S03E21 will play when I'm watching S03E23. I've seen this issue with multiple TV shows.
I use opensubtitles.org as my preferred agent.
Unable to stream to devices from Mac Mini
Can Someone please help. Plex has suddenly stopped working on all my apple devices. It works fine on my mac mini but on the devices it populates but when you try to play you just get the orange spinning circle ad nothing happens. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?
Cheers
There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard
It seems I'm having the same issue as many other people after performing an update (Version 1.0.3.2461).
I get this message, "There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard"
Also getting "Media not found. - The media you're trying to access doesn't seem to exist." in my TV Shows, but for some reason Movies are still working fine.
I've followed https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1184161/#Comment_1184161, but I get the error, "There was a problem optimizing the database".
Is there a solution to this problem?
Spinning ball when clicking Plex menu item
When I have the (latest) Mac Plex Media Server running and try to click on the Plex icon in the menu bar, I get a spinning ball for about 15 seconds before the menu opens up. My CPU is showing very low usage and Plex operates perfectly smoothly otherwise.
Is this a known issue already?
Menu bar icon lag
Recently I've been experience lag when I click the plex icon in the top right of my screen. Takes 5 seconds for the dropdown to appear. Sometimes even the spinning color wheel. Used to work instantly.
I'm running Version 0.9.11.7.803-87d0708
Anyone know why this is happening?
Alex Taking approx. 30 seconds to respond
Hi there,
I am having an issue with my Plex Media Server.
Everything is running fine, I can access my files via Xbox etc, however on my mac, every time I click on the Plex icon on the top right menu bar to access the Media Manager etc, it takes approx. 30 seconds to load, and I have the spinning ball.
The rest of the machine works fine, however I have noticed that Safari is also non-responsive in this ~30 second period. After waiting, everything works as it should, it's just a little annoying having to wait every time I want to access Plex.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Plex Version: 0.9.12.4
Mac: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009)
OS : El Capitan, 10.11.5
Mac taskbar: odd new(ish) behaviour
Been running Plex on my mac mini for years, but of late I'm getting the rainbow spinner (sorry, not a huge mac user so don't know the real term for this) when I click on the plex icon in my taskbar that launches the library etc. It usually spins for about 30 seconds before displaying the menu, during which the keyboard is frozen. It's a fairly recent phenomenon, and more an irritant than anything, but if anyone has any idea why this is happening I'd be grateful. As I said above, I'm not a heavy mac user so I really have no idea where to start looking for help. Cheers.
Plex Media Server makes computer run slow.
Hi, I have been using Plex Media Server on my Macbbok 2010 modell (2.5Ghz DualCore, 4GB RAM) for about 1 and a half years. But recently after I restarted the computer, the Plex Media Server seems to make the computer to run slow. When PMS is not running the Computer works fine, and is very fast, but as soon as I open PMS, it completely freezes, and the wheel starts spinning every time I press on PMS drop-down menu in the top-bar. It also makes me unable to connect to it through team viewer. It was not like this before, the Macbook is more than powerful enough to run PMS. And to make it clear, the server is not transcoding anything, it is not updating the library and is not generating any thumbnail, or anything that normally would slow it down. It just seem to f*ck the whole system up. I am considering to make a fresh install, but I have friends that have watched different things on the server, and I don't want for those things to appear as unwatched again, and I don't wanna have to scan all my media again because I have so much content that I have manually gone thought and added info and posters to and such.
Another thing is that the server shows up when I go to, the lets say the web app. But it loads the start menu with Queued Movies and TV Shows and recently added movies and series, very slow. It also loads the artwork and all media very slow when I go into Movies, but once I get into a movie or an episode, it plays it perfectly. So there is no problem with the network connection, or no problem with the computer. The problem lies within the PMS app.
So as of now, I see only one solution. To make a new plex server, and scan all my content again. I know this will work. But is there a way to just make a fresh install of my previous server. So I don't have to invite friends, and scan all my media all over again?
Appreciate any type of answer! :) Thanks.
Plex Media Server Preventing Display Sleep
Hi,
I run PMS on Mac 10.11.4 (El Capitan) in my bedroom, on the Plex Pass update Channel - currently version 1.0.0.2261. The display/monitor for the mac is set in OS X preferences to turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity (but not the Mac itself) - for the past several years this has worked fine. However in the last few weeks or so, I've noted that it no longer turns off, and it appears that Plex Media Server is the culprit.
If I launch Terminal and use the command "pmset -g assertions", one of the responses under the "Listed by owning process" section is the below:
pid 48132(Plex Media Server): [0x00077c4d00051eed] 28:22:46 PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep named: "PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep"
Is anyone in a similar boat? Can anyone from the Plex team/community help me get my display automatically turning off again? Appreciate any help that you guys can offer!
How to I refresh broken links to my videos in Plex Media Server
I have 3 external drives that host all my videos in Plex Media Server. One of the drives un-mounted without my knowledge. While un-mounted I tried to play a few videos from that drive. Plex still had all the information, but when it went to load the video the link to the source was broken. Naturally.
Now, I've remounted the drive on my computer and all videos are accessible. However, plex shows the video as unvailable and I can't get it to refresh the broken link to them. Is there a way I can refresh these links? To re-check the broken files to see if the link works now? I've tried to refresh the file a million times but that doesn't fix the broken link.
The only solution I can think of is to remove the entire server ("TV SHOWS") and then add them all back again. But this would reset all my watched/unwatched statistics. And mess up my on deck.
Is there an easy way to refresh the broken links? Am I missing and obvious solution?
Plex not retrieving metadata
I have had a problem for the last few weeks where plex is not getting all the metadata for new media. This has been mostly happening for TV Show and my UFC collection. When i add a new episode most of the time it will get the episode bio but not the title, date, poster or background. I would try matching and unmatching, emptying the trash, cleaning the bundles, force refresh, messing with the agents setting, basically anything i could think of but nothing worked.
After sometime of looking around the forums i found a post about the Plex Caches. Once i had found the folder (~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches) and cleared the folders of TMDb and the posters/backgrounds then all of my new media started retrieving the metadata. The only problem is i have to keep deleting the cache as i still sometimes run into this issue.
I just wanted to know if anyone else had been having this issue?
Also is there a permanent fix rather than having to delete the cache constantly?
Unable to connect from any client to a PLEX Server on an IMAC

Any assistance gratefully accepted.
Somehow cannot connect media server to device
Greetings,
After a while I wanted watch some TV series and since I bought a Playstation 4 I want to give the device a try to get rid of my applet v and air video on my phone.
My current situation:
An iMac running yosemite 10,10,5
A playstation 4
My modem (of course) in bridge mode
An external router to provide WIFI coverage for the entire house
The moment I want to see media via the PMS on my device using WIFI it works fine, but this does not work with series , as it stops playing after a while (not sure if this is due to wifi).
Therefore, I want to connect everything using wires and hopefully create a better connection. My wires of my PC and PS4 are both connected to the modem and everything is working fine (browsing, gaming etc.)
But the moment I want to connect PLEX it says:
"Your PMS and device are on different subnets. This may cause communication issues depending on the network setup. Please check the network setup and try again.
Now, I've found my subnetmask of my iMac and tried everything to get them connected but it just won't work. Does anybody have any idea as I have the feeling it should work but it does not :(
Plex Server conflicts with OSX screensaver
I've been experiencing a strange behavior after upgrading to Version 1.0.0.2261 of Plex Server for OS X.
I run the Plex server off my iMac (running on Safari Version 9.1.1 (11601.6.17) and OS X El Captain, 10.11.5), which has its screensaver set to 1 minute.
Whenever I use the cast menu on the Plex Server to connect to either Roku or Apple TV, the screensaver never on my iMac never kicks in as if the computer was kept "awake" by something.
Reversely, if I play any media from the iOS app into my TV or use the native Plex apps on either platform, the screensaver on the Mac works just fine.
I've been using Plex with this exact setup for years so it took me a while to narrow it down to Plex (at first I assumed it was an OS X issue).
Anyone experiencing a similar behavior?
Any help appreciated!
New update PMP seems to have issues...
Since I updated my PMP on my Mac Mini (Late 2012, El Capitan), music doesn't seem to play continuously anymore i.e. it will play one song then stop...
Thats the same if it plays in the app, cast from my laptop or phone, normal play or shuffle... )':
Also, the icon for the app doesn't seem to work any more, its just the pencil/brush/ruler/paper symbol from Apple..
Anyone else had this...??? It was flawless before the update...
A music album is being matched very wrong: as two albums with erroneous slashes in various fields
A picture speaks a thousand words:
Obviously this is the Beatles album "Revolver". All the tracks are mp3s and are tagged properly and consistently. They're in a folder named "Revolver", which is in a folder named "The Beatles". I copied these files into my Plex library from iTunes, which organized them correctly. Checked PMS's logs but didn't find any relevant info, other than that it scanned the Revolver folder. Near as I can tell, none of my other music albums are doing this. I do not have Plex Pass, so this is using the "last.fm" agent.
Any ideas what in the world is going wrong?
Music metadata - artist/album/track titles filled with slashes
I'm setting up a music library for the first time with Plex. I pointed Plex to a NAS copy of my primary iTunes library, which is quite large (~200GB). It's taking a long time to DL all the metadata, over 20 hours and maybe a bit over 50% done. OK I expected that. However, several artists' names have multiple slashes appended and often, but not in all cases, these artists' albums' names also have multiple slashes. If an album has this naming issue, then all of the tracks on the album also have slashes. If the only solution is that I have to either live with this or fix manually, then I'm done with Plex as a music server. I was interested in using Plex with Sonos for my personal library as a way to avoid Sonos' library size limitations.
Any help out there?
[Note: not sure about protocol here. I just posted this as a comment to what looked like an earlier question that had no responses for several months. Sorry for multiple posts]
