Hi there, just tried too move my libraries (movies and series) to a NAS (named z:\ from G:\ . Followed instructions. Movies: complete rescan of all items was neccessary, i.e delted old library. More strange: TV Series. new location added and insted of showing 2 items for each the upper folder named "series" is shown with 16 series encompassing 240 files.....delted the library and rescanned old G drive...took a while but same results as originally, all series identified...what is this. any body an idea?
Move Plex Media Libraray to new hard drive / NAS
Movies not being picked up by PMS even with correct folder/file name format.
I am pretty sure people would read this and think, "ah man, not this again! Go search through the forum!". Unfortunately, I have read through what feels like an endless amounts of posts about this issue but with no resolve. I have a MacBook Pro OS X El Capitan. I downloaded the PMS app perfectly on my PC and followed the setup perfectly. Before adding my "Movies" folder library, i went through the guide on how to properly title your files. I have change the titles appropriately (example: Allegiant YIFI_2016_BLURAY.MKV, to Allegiante (2016).mkv) Yet, PMS is still not picking up any of the folder or files.
Main purpose: To stream all my downloaded movies to my new SmartTV, wirelessly.
Issue: PMS not picking up any movie files or formats.
Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Kind regards.
Joel
4K Playback problem PMS.
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if someone would be able to offer me some advice on an issue I'm having playing back 4K content.
I current am running PMS on a MacMini.
Core i5 - I5-3210M @ 2.5 Ghz
8GB Ram
I can have a few 1080p streams running at the same time, no issue however when it comes to playing 4K content I cannot seem to figure out what the bottleneck is. The playback is essentially no existent and I don't believe it is a (local) bandwidth issue. Everything in question is hard wired 1Gbps ethernet.
I am using an Apple TV 4 which is not playing back the content and yes I know it doesn't support 4K yet but it should play it back, its buffering too much and unwatchable.
I tried using Apple TV apps like Infuse/VLC to directly play the file over the network however that didn't work as the apple TV doesn't have enough power to do so.
I tried using the Plex app on my Sony 4K TV.(kd-65x8500b) I toggled the direct play/steam switches on the Plex app and it made no difference.
Just to test network bandwidth I played the video directly over SMB network sharing and Wifi and it played perfectly.
However as another test, I logged into Plex web interface, via Wifi on my 5K iMac which has no issues playing back 4K files, and it could barely play indicating to me that its the server/CPU (Derrr).
I took the raw file, placed it onto a USB drive, straight into the TV, works perfectly....
So I'm assuming its not a network bandwidth issue, its a server/CPU issue.
So my question is how can I get my TV to play these files directly.... what device would people recommend?
Im so curious, if my TV can handle playing the file directly from USB, why wouldn't it "direct play/stream" over the network? Does that mean the crappy Plex app that i downloaded on my TV isn't working correctly?

Plex not detecting web optimized files
I have loads of videos that have been through both handbrake and subler.
During that process I have checked the box for web optimized in handbrake and also optimized them again in subler.
But when I look at the info for the video in plex it still reports they are not web optimized.
If I upload the files somewhere online, I can stream the files just fine (they start playback within a few seconds), which to me suggests they are web optimized.
So why is plex not detecting they are optimized ?
There was a problem playing this item
I receive this error when trying to play a few of my video files "There was a problem playing this item."
The file format is the same as those that are able to play successfully.
Any thoughts/ideas?
Airport Extreme with 3 TB drive

"Optimize Database" Makes Web-Based Administration Unresponsive
I'm running Mac OS 10.11.5.
Whenever I Optimize Database (using latest version of Chrome or Firefox) it seems to timeout.
I can go to the Plex Application icon and choose "Preferences" or "Open Plex..." in the menu which open a new tab but the web browser page just times out. The browser URI is either "http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#" or "http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings" but neither loads, not even the Title tag appears (e.g., in Chrome the page is Untitled and the page blank white).
This has been going on for some time. Are there some unsupported SQL maintenance commands I can run as a test (AFTER quitting plex, manual backup of database, etc)?
Thanks,
-Michael

Did a 'refresh all' with 1.0.1, and all actors, Directors and Writers gone
Agent is 'Plex Movie'
Scanner is ' plex Movie Scanner'
Cast List Source 'The Movie Database'
Some of the movies now with no actors:
The Social Network (2010)
Solaris (1972)
The Piano Teacher (2001)
Basically, lots, but not all of my movies now have no actors listed or Directors or writers.
Problems with "Continue Watching" not updating position
Since updating to Plex Media Server 1.0.0.2261-a17e99e on my Mac, if I'm using the Plex Home Theater or Plex Media Player on that Mac, it no longer updates the "Continue Watching" position on a movie or TV show. For example, if I haven't started a movie before and watch a portion of it, when I go back to the home screen, it doesn't have the continue watching option available.
If I watch something on Plex through the browser, that will update (also seems to works fine on Roku and Amazon Fire devices).
I have tried reinstalling the client as well as completely wiping the server and associated cache subdirectories without success. I couldn't find the previous installation files and couldn't figure out how to roll back the server. Anyone experience this or have any suggestions for me?
Thanks!
OSX Rollback Update
Since no amount of searching seems to be turning anything up, figured I'd post here.
So, it turns out the latest Plex Server update is no longer compatible with my version of OSX. It would have been nice if the updater had checked for that first before installing, but thankfully the updater keeps all installed versions on file. All you need to do to roll back is the following:
Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Updates (if your home library folder is hidden, go to Finder->Go->Go To Folder... and enter the full path).
There you'll see a list of folders with various version names. Within each version folder there will be a folder called "packages", containing a manifest file and a zip.
Copy the zip somewhere (ie, a temp folder) and decompress it. You'll be left with a folder called "Contents".
Find the Plex Media Server.app file in your Applications folder, right click it and select "show contents".
Delete the Contents folder within the app, and copy the newly unzipped Contents folder there instead.
Run the application.
You should be back up and running your previous version of choice.
Hope this helps and is not too redundant. Why there is no longer any option to install older versions of Plex Server is beyond me - the minimum system requirements just suddenly changed and there's no official way to go back.
Last position not working!
After the latest update of PMS the last positions of films and tv series are not being saved in the position that I've left them, making me have to start again! Anyone else got this issue?
Plex server 1.0.0.2261-a17e99e on Mac OS X 10.11.5/6 reporting DTS/5.1 as DTS stereo
For some reason that I can't figure out, Plex server is reporting many of my .m4v files created in various versions of HandBrake with a DTS/5.1 audio track as being DTS stereo. I used the DTS passthrough feature of HandBrake and the app "Media-Info" (available on the Mac app store for free) correctly reports that the DTS track is indeed 6-channel. My brother is also seeing this problem, is anyone else seeing this?
Don't drop Snow Leopard support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plex Media Server - Transcoder Preview: 0.9.17.0
– (OS X) Mac OS versions 10.6 and 10.7 are no longer supported.
No, no, NOOOOOOOO! Don't drop support for Snow Leopard!!!
Snow Leopard was the last version of OS X that was worth a damn: the best, most trouble-free OS Apple ever released, the veritable WinXP of Mac!
Ever since:
– Wi-Fi is unreliable
– Mail is unreliable
– Networking is unreliable
– Safari is unreliable
– The new system font causes eye strain within minutes of use
– The interface looks like it’s from McDonalds
– Text is blurry
Now we understand completely that Apple has made it very hard for developers to support all but the very latest versions of OS X, but this isn't a question of us being too lazy to upgrade, or legacy apps. Rather, it's that Apple has thrown us under the bus, beginning with 10.7, in terms of usability, functionality, and the user-friendly GUI to which we'd become accustomed. Snow Leopard is the Windows XP of Apple: the last OS worth a damn.
For this reason, Snow Leopard's installed base is still greater than that of Lion and Mountain Lion:
Look at all the other developers who continue to release Snow Leopard-compatible titles every single day!
http://download.cnet.com/mac/3151-20_4-0.html?osNamesExact=Mac+OS+X+10.6
Please reconsider: keep the old Xcode & SDKs around and go to the extra trouble of maintaining Snow Leopard support! Many are holding on to Snow Leopard for dear life:

30 for 30 Metadata
I seem to have a problem with ESPN's 30 for 30 series; while the metadata from Season 1 populates correctly, Seasons 2 and 3 have problems - The second half of Season 2 and all of Season 3 have no episode titles, or episode info, but do populate with posters.
As far as I can see on thetvdb.plexapp.com the metadata is all there - its all there on the main tvdb.com site as well, so I don't understand why its not appearing on my plex instance
Spinning ball when clicking Plex menu item
When I have the (latest) Mac Plex Media Server running and try to click on the Plex icon in the menu bar, I get a spinning ball for about 15 seconds before the menu opens up. My CPU is showing very low usage and Plex operates perfectly smoothly otherwise.
Is this a known issue already?
Have read troubleshooting but still having issues
Hi all.
I have just purchased a pass and am having issues setting up remote access.
I have used both google and the search on the flex support forum to look for similar issues and followed the troubleshooting but cannot get it working.
I have a TPLINK Archer C8 I first followed the following link tp-link.com/en/faq-742.html and attempted to set up port forwarding by adding the port 32400 manually and using the ip address 192.168.0.104 because that ip address was listed in the plex server page as shown here
I then followed the following link tp-link.com/en/faq-734.html to try setting up a static ip address for my Macbook. The default ip for my router is 192.168.0.1 so I setup the static ip as 192.168.0.104 as shown in the screenshot and I found my mac address in system preferences/network/wifi/Hardware
After this I got a green light when I rebooted my router but the next time I started Plex I again got the not available outside your network message both with the port 32400 in the box "manually specify public port" and the checkbox ticked and clicking retry and without it or the checkbox ticked.
What am I doing wrong?
Regards
Steve
Media Scanner stuck, sucking up all CPU
Hi!
My media scanner got stuck on this process:

My songs are no longer playing...
The last time I was on Plex, everything was perfect. The songs were added flawlessly, played perfectly, and the customization of the pages were a great bonus! A few days passed, and today I go back, add another album the exact same way, and then try to play my music again. Now the music won't play. I click an album, and it will take a moment, read nothing, and then go to the next song, try to read it get nothing, move on, etc. The timer for each song stays at 00:00. The music I added today plays fine, but the albums I added previously are kaput. Help?
