Can't remove unavailable media.
When I add content to my PMS, I usually dump a ton of files into my server, then use an application to rename the files.
However, after the files have been renamed, I can't seem to remove the old file entry from the XML.
Things I've tried.
1.) Refresh
2.) Turbo Scan
3.) Deep Scan
4.) Analyze
5.) Force Refresh
6.) Empty Trash (Which yields: There was a problem emptying the trash for TV Shows.)
The only way I can get the content to delete, is if I enable "Clients can delete files" and delete each entry one by one. (Which, on hundreds of files, will take WAY too long)

Why is cast not editable in metadata?
Just curious as to why all metadata is editable except the cast list. Media Preview mode displays the first 3 cast members, but the cast lists seem to be in random order and rarely list the stars first. So the vast majority of the time you don't end up seeing who is starring in the movie, you see 3 names you've never heard of. It kinda defeats the purpose.
You can edit directors, writers and everything else, but not the cast list. If you could, it would be a simple matter of putting the cast in an order that makes sense.
Just a thought for future Plex improvements (or maybe this more of a skin issue?).

Additional User Creating Playlist Possible?
Hello,
My email address and account has a Plex Pass. I use it to sync to my iPhone normally. My wife has been using Plex more lately. I added her email address as an account on the server. However on her iPad which she is signed in with her account she can't see any playlist.
I also logged into the web server with her account and I can't create playlist there either.
So are creating playlist in PMS a Plex Pass feature only? On the iPad I see it says to sync a playlist requires a Plex Pass, but I don't want to spend the money for my wife account if this feature won't work.

The Plex app on my iMac will no longer open.
For some reason the Plex app on my iMac will no longer open. I can double click on it and nothing happens. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. The same thing continues to happen. Thoughts on what is going on?

Is it possible to transcode multi-channel AAC to AC-3?
Just wondering if this is a possibility. I have an older AVR attached to my bedroom Vizio that sounds great but doesn't support AAC. It would be a shame to replace it just for this. I know PMS used to transcode any DTS soundtrack to AC-3 that was played on the Vizio app (since the Vizio doesn't support DTS) but that also now transcodes to AAC.

I keep getting theres a problem playing this item
i have done all that was suggested on the forums including deleting cache and application folders and re-doing my entire collections meta data this all worked perfectly before the last update. i hav no space issue the hard drive with the least free space has 108gb available

No extras and trailers....
With TMDb selected as default, all agent settings, set as per Plex instructions, results in no extras and trailers. If I set Freebase as the default, I get extras and trailers, but resent movies don't seem to be found. Is it not possible to get extras and trailers with TMDb set as default?

Problem with Music and Labelling
Hi
I used to run Plex Version 0.9.16.6 and a ReadyNAD 312. Everything worked hunky dory.
I decided to get myself a 2014 mac mini which has El Capitan on it.
I copied all my media (videos, films, tv shows, photos, music etc) over onto the Mac Mini which is also running Plex Version 0.9.16.6
I let it go off and scan my media and it worked fine. However the Music scan is a problem. I have noticed that if I go into an album for some of the artists (not all) it shows the name of the song but with a load of ////////////////// after the song name
I am using last.fm as the agent and but not using embedded tags. I have scanned it a couple of times and still get the same result. Didn't have this problem on my Readynas
Any ideas?

Plex Media Server is no longer adding ANY files, regardless of the drive it is located on!
As stated in the question, tried moving files between drives, adding to a new drive...PMS will not add anything to itself!
Anyone got any ideas? it's killing me!!!
Please note, i've tried moving whole TV Shows (All Series) between drives, to a NEW drive with no luck.
I have also done the same with movies and same result!

sync server waiting... pending
Hi guys, i've read through some of the posts about this and can't find an answer to my specific problem. Im trying to sync from Media server on mac mini to iOS on three different devices. all three have the same problem.
I select a file to sync, be it flac, mp4, anything, then go to the sync menu and it says waiting for server and pending next to the item with a little egg timer next to it that is not moving. i have tried all sync settings be it medium, high or low and nothing changes. is there anything i can do?

Renaming audio tracks
Is it possible to rename the audio tracks for a movie? If I've got the main audio and a director's commentary, right now both audio tracks are labeled "English (AAC Stereo)"
I'd like to give each track a more descriptive name if possible.

"Optimize Database" Makes Web-Based Administration Unresponsive
I'm running Mac OS 10.11.5.
Whenever I Optimize Database (using latest version of Chrome or Firefox) it seems to timeout.
I can go to the Plex Application icon and choose "Preferences" or "Open Plex..." in the menu which open a new tab but the web browser page just times out. The browser URI is either "http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#" or "http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings" but neither loads, not even the Title tag appears (e.g., in Chrome the page is Untitled and the page blank white).
This has been going on for some time. Are there some unsupported SQL maintenance commands I can run as a test (AFTER quitting plex, manual backup of database, etc)?

Only 24 of my Movies and Media are appearing on Mac OS Plex Server
I have about 100 Movies and shows on my hard drive. Only 24 are appearing on the Mac Server. It doesn't matter if I use Safari or Chrome or Firefox. The problem is identical. Yet, I can run an Ubuntu Virtual Machine and run the Plex Server within the same Mac, feeding the data from the same external hard drive and that works great and I can see all my media on all my devices, Apple iOS, Apple TV, Roku and even on Tivo.

What's the right/best way of adding music videos to my library?

I've just learned that Plex now has a totally improved support for music — both audio and video.
I tried to follow this guide: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/205568377-Adding-Local-Artist-and-Music-Videos, in order to add my own music videos, but I'm failing miserably.
First of all, I've added my music collection (audio) to Plex with no problem at all. I've always used iTunes and let it manage my music for me (the tracks are in Users/My User/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Artist/Album/Tracks), so I just added my iTunes folder (Add Library>Music) and everything worked like a charm. I have the correct metadata and everything.
When it comes to music videos though, I have a different system. I keep them in a separated folder (let's say Users/My User/Movies/Music Videos), where I have all the bands organized in subfolders (for instance Users/My User/Movies/Music Videos/Red Hot Chili Peppers). Also, I have some lonely videos that are just inside the main folder, with no specification at all. However, every single file follows the naming rule “Artist - Song”.
I did exactly what the aforementioned page says, from “Global Music Videos Folder” to the bottom, but that guide doesn't cover what kind of media should I add or how to do so. I tried with Music, but it doesn't work — the library looks empty. I tried too using Home Videos, but I don't get any metadata.
So the question is, how can I add those music videos to my library, using the “global music videos folder” system (i.e. not associating every music video to my already existing music library), and getting the right metadata?

My songs are no longer playing...
The last time I was on Plex, everything was perfect. The songs were added flawlessly, played perfectly, and the customization of the pages were a great bonus! A few days passed, and today I go back, add another album the exact same way, and then try to play my music again. Now the music won't play. I click an album, and it will take a moment, read nothing, and then go to the next song, try to read it get nothing, move on, etc. The timer for each song stays at 00:00. The music I added today plays fine, but the albums I added previously are kaput. Help?

Replacing my HDD with Solid State

I am about to replace the HDD on my mac mini with a SSD. I don't want to lose my playlists and watch history and other metadata. How do I safely transfer all my files to the new drive without starting my plex server from scratch?

Streaming Exceptions (write: protocol is shutdown)
I have a perfectly working Plex setup.
Server running on a Mac-Mini pulling files from a NAS using AFP (SMB & NFS were not reliable for me). ATV4, ATV3 (Plexconnect) and a variety of tablets etc.
Mac-Mini (late 2012)
2.5 Ghz Intel Core I5
4 GB RAM
However I'm seeing the following errors just occasionally recently:

I haven't attached detailed logs, can if necessary but probably not needed for this minor glitch. 10.0.0.117 in this case in an ATV4. The movie is 1080p on Direct Stream, Transcoding AC3. Transcoding speed numbers are in double figures, CPU on the Mac-Mini is constantly less than 5%.
This error is not affecting playback.
Should I assume this is Plex attempting to write to a socket thats already been closed, therefore pointing to a network type issue. If it is network related I'd like to get a head of it.
