Shuts off my tv

I have a roku stick and On certain movies at specific points in the movie it shuts my tv off and I have to unplug replug the tv for it to even turn back on.

I was using a hdmi splicer but switched to direct hdmi port on tv and same problem. This doesn't happen on my roku 3 on bedroom tv. I'm not sure if it's plex, roku, tv or what. Anyone else having this issue?

Plex server seems to use deprecated sleep assertion

$

I like to save energy by allowing my iMac to sleep when possible, even though it's being used as a Plex server. I've got it set up to wake whenever a LAN or internet client wants to stream (DD-WRT router + DDNS). However, I find that the iMac (El Capitan, latest version) doesn't stay awake while streaming. I can see via 'pmset -g assertions' that the Plex server generates the kernel assertion NoIdleSleepAssertion while streaming. Some research (such as this page) seems to indicate that NoIdleSleepAssertion has been deprecated in favor of PreventUserIdleSystemSleep, which is what most other applications seem to use, including iTunes when it is serving media to clients. Do other people running El Capitan find that their server sleeps while streaming? If a developer is reading this, any chance that a future update could be queued to generate PreventUserIdleSystemSleep while streaming?

Remove preview thumbnail for Home Videos?

Hey guys,

I use my Home Videos section of Plex to store recorded sports matches. I go out of my way to avoid seeing the scores before watching the games during my days, but when I sit down to watch the game through Plex, the preview thumbnail often shows a still of the game with the scores included.

This feature has spoiled games for me!

I tried turning off Preview Thumbnails, but I think that only disabled the preview thumbnail on the scrubber during video playback. I'm talking about the preview thumbnail it uses in place of Poster Art.

Ideally, I'd be able to change the poster art for all Home Videos (to an NBA log or something, as this is the only sport I currently watch). Is this possible? Or do you have an alternative solution for me? I'm pretty sure I can manually change the poster art for each new game, but I don't want to have to do that multiple times per week. Especially given I have everything else automated.

Thanks in advance!
Ben

Buffering on Amazon Fire TV with iMac as server

$

I am running my plex server off of my 27" iMac. I have it hardwired and I'm getting about 120mbps download speed and around 12mbps upload speed. I have my new Amazon Fire TV hardwired into my same comcast router. Every time I try to watch a movie I run into network errors multiple times stating that my network speed is not fast enough.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this or what could be causing this?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Lag/Buffering

Hi, wondering if anyone can help.

Every time i use Plex on any device (firestick, TV app) there is always a lag where it will play for 10 seconds and then stop for around 10 seconds and will keep doing this.

Any other streaming site i use i.e Netflix or prime work fine with no issues so that tells me that my internet connection is fine which is 40MB fibre.

I have rebooted my router and still no joy. Just to note all the files play fine in VLC.

Has anyone had this issue before or know a fix?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Transcode/Optimize on another machine?

This may be stupid question, but here goes.

I am running PMS on a NAS, which obviously doesn't have great horsepower. I have PMS running on my Mac, which has good horsepower. I connect to my NAS PMS via the Mac PMS, is it possible to initiate transcodes/optimizations and have them run on the Mac rather than the NAS?

Plex Server problem

$

I'm running the latest version of Plex Server on my Mac Mini.

All my movies and tv shows are stored externally.

Lately, it seem the each time I turn on one of the enclosures hosting 8TB of tv show, Plex starts scanning all 4 (each 2TB) drives as if they were brand new.

This is annoying because I can't just turn on the plex server, boot the external enclosure and start watching whatever show I want till plex finishes scanning and processing all of them.

Right now it's been like 20 minutes, my mac is running at 95 degrees trying to scan and match everything as quick as possible and all the art work that I chose for each series and season is gone, they are repleaced by the standard ones...

How can I fix this please, it didn't use to be a problem before.

Thanks!

PSM won’t play media after computer restart

$

I am running the most recent version of PMS on my Mac mini (late 2011). Earlier today we had a brief power outage causing the Mac mini to be switched off. I turned it back on but the OS wouldn’t load. Eventually I started in safe mode, succeeded with that, then restarted normally and got into my computer.

Since then, however, no media (stored on an external 3TB hard drive) will play through either the web app or my Samsung TV. I have tried restoring the metadata and whatnot from my Time Machine backup; didn’t help. I reinstalled PMS; didn’t help.

Is there anyone that have an idea of how I can fix this problem?

Edit: Nevermind. Turns out it worked after another restart of my Mac.

Auto-Update to "Broken" Version

Saw a banner when I logged into my Plex server's web page the other day that a new server version was available, reflexively hit the button to update and walked away - didn't notice until the next morning that the newly updated version was no longer compatible with the version of OS X (10.7.5) on the old Mac Mini I'm using as a server. Not a huge problem, Googled Plex version history and rolled back, all is well. But shouldn't Plex check the OS version to make sure it's a compatible one before applying updates?

Plex Media Server fails to run after updating Mac to OS X 10.11.5

$

I'm running a Mac Mini (mid 2011; 2.5 GHz Core i5) and I updated my OS to 10.11.5 this morning. I had been running PMS successfully up until then. After the update, whenever I run PMS it appears to try to initialize with the ">" symbol up top along the status bar, but then disappears. The Plex web app indicates that it isn't running since it can't located the server. I'm not sure what version of Plex I was previously running but believe it was the latest. I reinstalled with both the latest version as well as the earlier (early Apr) version with no success. I uninstalled Plex between each install. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Plex Media Server is sporadically very slow to list content or return search results

$

I have a problem with my copy of PMS where it will randomly be very slow. This slowness includes:

  • returning search results, which can take upwards of 10-15 seconds instead of being instant
  • listing my TV shows, music, or movies
  • listing the contents of a specific TV show or music album
  • playing a particularly piece of content -- it can spin for upwards of 10-15 seconds
  • sometimes never returning search results at all -- it will just spin indefinitely

I'm running Plex clients from my web browser, Apple TV 4th gen, and iPhone 6S. PMS is running on a dedicated media server that is a mid 2010 Mac Mini with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB of RAM running OS X 10.11.4. All of my media is spread about among two 4 TB external hard drives connected using USB 3 or Firewire 800. The only other application running on this server is qBittorrent, which is generally idling.

The majority of the time I don't experience this slowness, and I've been unable to figure out what the root cause is. Here are some things I've checked or tried and subsequently ruled out as solutions:

  • qBittorrent interfering. The slowness doesn't correspond with times where qBittorrent is active and using CPU cycles or hitting my disks.
  • Friends or family streaming my media. This slowness has occurred when no one is streaming anything, and has failed to occur when someone was streaming something.
  • My server being too slow. A friend is running PMS on a dedicated server that's an even slower, older Mac with a similarly sized library and he experiences no slowness at all. Search results are near-instant.
  • My server not having enough memory. The combined memory usage of everything that's running is less than 2 GB.
  • My hard drives going to sleep. I've set it up so that the drives never sleep, and have confirmed this is the case.
  • Network slowness. This occurs even when streaming media over my local LAN with all devices involved being connected through wired ethernet.
  • Wireless data slowness. This occurs frequently when I'm using my phone and I'm not connected to a wifi, but that's not the issue either because two of my friend's Plex libraries return instant search results in the same situation.
  • My router. This issue has persisted over more than one router.
  • Failure to optimize my library. Optimizing my library seems to make the problem go away for up to an hour, but it returns shortly afterwards.
  • My hard drives having poor read or seek times. I've confirmed that they perform normally for a USB 3 or Firewire 800 external drive.
  • Destroying and recreating my library: I tried this with my music library recently and it had no effect.
  • Checking PMS logs: I haven't found anything revealing in there, aside from the occasional "SLOW QUERY" message, which usually is in the range of 250-1000 ms.

The only thing I can think of at this point that I haven't tried is blowing away my entire library and starting again from scratch, but I really, really don't want to do that. I like having it keep track of when I've played various media, what's next, what music albums were added when, and so on, and I really don't want to lose any of that metadata.

Can anyone help me diagnose what's going wrong? This is very frustrating, and it feels like my media server fails to perform at times when I want it to perform most. (e.g. trying to quickly put on a song while I'm in my car, and after entering a search query it just spins forever, never giving me any results)

Feature Request - Grouping Movie Series

$

Eg. Die Hard, Fast & Furious, James Bond
Hey Guys,

I'm new to these forums, so sorry if this is in the wrong place, or has already been requested (I couldn't find it myself)...
I've been using Plex for over 6 months now, and I think its wonderful, extremely simple and effective.

I'm wondering if there could be an option to group together film series. I'm sure many people would find this feature really handy for all those sets of films that are all part of a series. You should know what I'm referring to, Back to the future, Austin Powers, American Pie, Harry Potter...Futurama Movies even! ;)

I'm sure the feature to group these together into "folders" within the server app, to be better managed inside the media center app, would be well received. Rather than me looking through the Bond films organized alphabetically amongst my other stuff, I could view just the bond movies.

Is this possible?

Cheers :)

Stream constantly freezing remotely

$

Hey everyone. I have been trying to figure this out, but have had no luck. My stream will freeze when watching any content remotely. About an hour or so into any movie, (mp4, avi, m4v) the stream will freeze telling me there is an issue with the connection and i should try lowering my settings. Lowering the quality still produces the same error. My upload speed is 20mbps, sometimes more, so internet is not the issue. Happens on IOS, xbox, web, android, and probably everything else. Tried using Verbose logs to find any connection drops below 1mbps, had nothing below 3mbps. Im updated to latest version of osx, and latest version of plex. Restart's do nothing. Hardware is a mac mini (late 2014) with 2.6ghz i5, 8 gb ram, 1tb 5400 rpm drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
