I am very much a beginner so any help would be greatly appreciated. I think I have two ways to go as far as setting up a Plex server, please correct me if I am wrong. My overall goal is to be able to rip my Blu-rays and DVDs and not lose any quality and to maintain the menu structure on both. Storage is not a problem at all.
1st way: install and run the Plex server software on my Mac mini. I have a Synology DS1515+ attached to the Mac mini. If I proceed with this option, what program would be the best to use to accomplish my goal of retaining full quality of my disk's? I don't mind spending some money if I need to I just want to retain full quality of my disk's.
2nd way: Install and run the Plex server directly on my Synology DS1515+. Again if I went this route I still need a program that is Mac compatible to rip all of my DVDs and Blu-ray's and maintain full quality and menus.
If you could please advise me which route you think I should go as far as running the Plex server from the Mac mini or from the Synology. Also I am 100% Mac-based. If someone knows or has a system so to speak of ripping disk's and then tagging them and moving them to the correct folder that would be great as well. All of my Apple TVs and Mac mini are hardwired to the network. Any advice on the best way to connect the Synology DS1515+ to the Mac mini would be great. USB 3.0, network cable with a thunderbolt converter?
One last thing. I will be watching my movies primarily from my AppleTV fourth-generation with the Plex app on it. If I can also watch my movies off-site from my mac or iPhone or iPad that would be great but not a necessity.
I just have such a large Blu-ray and DVD collection and it would be great to be able to watch them from any TV in the house, because all of my TVs have an Apple TV hooked up to them.
Thanks Johnny
