I have several TV Specials that I have tried repeatedl to add to the PLEX library, and it is nothing but pure pain to do! Eventually I have gotten a couple of them added, but not without MAJOR heartache and way too much manual editing. Here are a few examples:
Band of Brothers - the HBO mini series
Vietnam - A Television History - from PBS.org (Public Television)
The War - A Ken Burns Film - also from PBS.org
There are any number of issues with these; mostly that there seems to be no place where one can get the meta-data to populate the items once they have been added to the library. Same goes for Posters. I eventually got the Band of Brothers and Vietnam DVD's to locate posters, but only after much manual effort. The Ken Burns file - The War - I had to resort to scanning the original DVD cover and adding it myself.
Another hot button is that of finding the correct episode names for anything like this that is even a little bit outside of the mainstream.
The last issue I have is a bit of a combined gripe. Part of the responsibility ;lies with the ripping software. This issue is a bit difficullt to explain but perhaps an example would illustrate. Many of the special DVD's mentioned above contain some "filler" material, with in-line credits to the PBS Sponsors. Anyway, when I try to rip these DVD's all I can seem to get are the actual Main Episode or Chapter video. In short, what I would like to see in the ripped, DVD Video Library version is an EXACT REPLICA of what is on the DVD itself. What I actually get is just the main titles, and none of the other stuff. What is the answer to this sort of thing? I have tried just about everything I can thing of, but all to no avail.
Does anyone else experience such things, or am I perhaps the only person on the planet trying to do such things?
OH, and one other thing. I read somewhere on this forum that one could look at the PLEX Media Server logs for indications of problems when trying to figure out where things go wrong with things like images and meta-data. While that all seemed reasonable at first blush, my PLEX Media Server is running on a WD MyCloud (EX2) server, and I can't figure out how to access the logs on that server. Any ideas on this point?
ANY help greatly appreciated.
