Connection speed error when watching movie locally on the Plex Server via web app

When trying to watch a movie on the Plex server itself, Plex will occasionally stop and give a message that my connection isn't fast enough to stream the content. This can happen anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes apart. If I stop the movie and resume it will continue fine.

My setup:

  • Plex Server version 1.1.4.2757 running on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

  • Intel Core i5-6600

  • Browser: Google Chrome (I had the same issue using Microsoft Edge)
  • Gigabit ethernet connected directly to an AC-1900 router

I don't think CPU or network performance is an issue. I'm able to play back multiple simultaneous HD streams on other devices on the network without issue. The problem only occurs trying to watch a video locally. In fact the CPU rarely gets above 10% when watching a movie locally.

The player settings for my browser are set to allow both direct play and direct streaming. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I can watch movies on the same PC loading it directly in a player like VLC, and it works fine. But I don't want to have to train the other members of my household how to use another app. It kind of defeats the purpose of having Plex.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
