Hi all, long time Plex user but first post on here, so please have patience if it is slightly Noob-ish.
Currently I have a setup as follows:
All media on a Synology NAS. This is connected to a Mac Mini (late 2014) in my living room by 1Gb ethernet through the house - so far, so good. Everything plays absolutely smoothely in whatever resolution I throw at it.
My parents however live in a different country to me (Cyprus - where the internet isn't great). They have roughly 8mbps internet, with variable bandwidth / quality. Ideally, I would do all the processing for them on my Mac Mini and just deliver their app whatever stream it wants.
Now, some strange (in my opinion) things have begun to happen. There are 3 shows, let's just call them A, B and C. Shows A and C are on my NAS in 1080p quality. Show B is 720p quality. Film A is also in 1080p quality.
When my parents try to stream Shows A and B, they get the not enough bandwidth error, and if it does run is very stuttery, even when turning the quality settings way down. I even up/downloaded show A to their local machine in 2mb 720p quality and it wouldn't run. Show C and Film A both run fine at native 1080p resolution though.
Can anyone think why this may be? Is there a setting I should change on my Mac Mini Plex Server that would force every piece of content to behave like Show C / Film A?
Thanks for any insight you can offer,
Brett
