Metadata gone

Yesterday I noticed a plex media server update - I downloaded it, installed, everything worked for a while but then a crash. Tried to restart, no go. No messages or anything, it would just appear in the dock for a sec, then disappear. Unfortunately I tried a few times, and seem to have overwritten the server logs (all of them, .1 to .5 now just show my attempts to restart - lesson learned there). So, I tried a solution to a similar problem a few months ago, delete a couple of files from the metadata. But, when I went and looked, the metadata folder was empty, completely. Everything was gone. Nothing else happening around that time, all I had done was watch a stream on my Apple TV. So, given I've messed up the log, is there anything else anyone can suggest? The server logs that do exist indicate a problem finding the metadata, no surprise. Any other of the several Plex logs that might have an answer? Or better yet, a magical solution? Thanks
