Hey all,
I use my macbook pro as my media server for Plex and use the app on Xbox One to watch my movies. My macbook is practically brand new and I've compared it with the system requirements for transcoding and it should be more than powerful enough to do it smoothly. Problem is, it doesn't seem to be in reality. I often get the "This server is not powerful enough to play videos smoothly" message while watching and it will buffer for long periods of time. Occasionally I can watch a movie with no major issues but the majority of the time the movie is unwatchable as it freezes virtually non-stop. It seems to do this no matter what the format of the movie is. I have used handbrake to format movies to run natively on Xbox (mp4, h264, and AAC) hoping that this would avoid transcoding and solve the issue but it hasn't solved it. I store my movies on an external drive connected to my router, so my only thought is that perhaps that is the choke point that is slowing it all down. Any ideas? I love the idea of Plex but I've been trying to make this work for so long and I'm so close to calling it quits.
P.S- I have adjusted the quality of the stream in the Xbox app about a bajillion times and it never really seems to do anything.
