Latest Plex update 1.12.1.4885-1046ba85f is unusable for Plex clients and server itself

Since the latest Plex update I am unable to connect or consistently connect to my Plex Server. I am currently using version 1.12.1.4885-1046ba85f which was installed I believe yesterday which is when the issues started. Clients on the network or outside the same network attempt to connect to the server but time out. Sometimes a client will connect but not display thumbnails of content. When I attempt to connect to the server while on the server it waits an extended period of time attempting to connect to the localhost and then displays a message There was an unexpected error loading libraries. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems.

Once and awhile it will connect to the server but not able to play anything. I am using Plex Pass and have been running Plex for years. I usually connect to it through TV clients, computers, Android and IOS devices on the same network and over the internet. Any ideas on where to go from now? Can I roll back to a previous version of the server? Running Mac OS Plex Server.

Mac PMS won't start

Hi there!
My PMS (Mac version) just bounces once (black dot at bottom) and it won't start... reboot didn't work either. Seems like the problem exists since the last update!?

Plex won't fast forward or rewind without restarting movie on Roku

Not sure if this should be in Mac or Roku section, but I'll start here.

When I watch a movie, if I want to rewind or fast forward, it restarts the movie. I imagine this is due transcodes or something and having to start over, but, is there a way around this? It happens when resuming a movie too - or under circumstances where i might want to fast forward past the titles or something.

Is there any place to look at diagnostics in plex? How can I figure out if this is the Roku or my server? Or is it just a software bug?

I've noticed the problem is on large movies (i.e. 25GB ones) but not TV shows (2-4GB).

Any help appreciated. Roku and Plex are up to date, latest software.

Reinstallation of PMS loses metadata

I have my Plex folder structure on an external drive. I had PMS set up so that all my TV shows had the proper names and posters. I had to completely erase my Mac internal drive where PMS was located due to an unrelated problem. When I reinstalled PMS and pointed it to the folder on the external drive, all my different TV shows appeared as "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", and not their proper names/posters, I still have a backup of my original hard drive if I can pull anything off to correct this problem. Help!

Plex media player update throws a 'Update Problem' installing the update

Unable to create symlink /Applications/Plex Media Player.app.new/Contents/Resources/qml/QtQml/Models.2/libmodelsplugin.dylib to
../../../../Plugins/quick/libmodelsplugin.dylib details: File exists

Does anyone have any ideas?

Plex Media Player v3.21.2
Running on MacBook Pro macOS 10.13.3

Weird subs voice over / read out loud issue

Hi all,

 

Some weird issue I have. I'm not sure if it's PMS or HT related, or even Plex related for that matter.

 

My setup:

- Mac 2013 running PMS and HT

- HDHomeRun quad TV tuner

- Synology DS213+ running DVBLink server to show TV content

- Several other Plex clients (Macbook, iPhone)

 

I've added DBVLink as a channel on PMS.

 

The weird thing is that, since some time, whenever there's subtitles in a TV show playing through HT, there's a voice over or read out loud option reading all the subs. Some other text in e.g. commercials is also recognized and read.

 

HT on the macbook is doing the same, however, on my iPhone this is not an issue. Running the same show through VLC recognizing the HDHomerun directly or through DVBLink server also doesn't do this.

Movies or tvshows also don't read out the subs, being burned in or not.

 

Anyone that can point me in a direction here, I'm copletely clueless where to start looking....

Difference between the plex list scanned and discovered and the real list of my hard drive

Hello

After scanning my folder disk, there is a difference between what i have and what plex found.
Is there a way to highlight the difference
My setting is
Macosx High Sierra 10.13.3 and plex media server is Version 1.12.1.4885-1046ba85f

Mac mini OSX updated to High Sierra and Remote problem

So plex turns on fine.
But the up down direction buttons on my remote do nothing on Plex Media Server.
Anyone else having this problem after updating their Mac OSX to high Sierra?
It was working fine all this time on th previous OS X.

Plex has the iPhoto channel. But Apple has come out with the Photos app the replaces iPhoto. I do not see an app channel to connect with the Photos app. Is there a way to redirect the iPhoto app to the Photos library?

Missing info from Media Server

Hello. I have been using Plex for about 6 months with no issues. As of the last couple days I have noticed that some if the files that are in the library that is being scanned a number of them are not showing up on the server. Any recommendations what is causing this issue? It has worked flawlessly but this has just started becoming an issue.

Why is my PMS unnecessary transcoding all of a sudden?

My PMS on my iMac seems to be unnecessarily transcoding. I tested it with remote Roku users. I only upload files that are absolutely compatible with what their Roku and TV settings and capabilities are. This has worked perfectly for several years. Now, the exact same files that played perfectly with no transcoding (direct play) are having the video and audio transcoded files that it played. This was not happening prior to High Sierra 10.13.4 update. My PMS verison 1.12.1.4885. What is my recourse?

Plex Library Constantly Scanning

I have had a Plex Premium Music Library for over a year now, and the base music file folder structure has not changed, short of adding new content. However, over the past few weeks, I have noticed a constant "Downloading Metadata.../Matching......." going on all the time. Like, almost constantly. If I stop Plex, and restart it, it will not occur until I add something new. It does seem to focus in on similar titles but it's moving at the speed of light through a ton of files. It happens to stop on a few constant titles, but they are either very popular albums, custom albums, or personal items that would not be found. Point being, all walks of life in terms of matching.

Now, this has not been a problem for 1+ years. Only recently and the items that have recently been added do not seem to pop up on the scrolling list, yet of course, I can not read everything nor have sat and watched it completely stop.

Thoughts?

Current: Version 1.12.1.4885 (Issue has spanned 4 server versions)

I have also emptied the cache for most agents, reset the agent list to default order (I had moved the Plex Premium Agent first under Artist/Albums), and other normal things like restarts, power cycles, etc.

I can also provide logs to anyone that would like to read them.

Plex Media Server - Cannot get remote access to work at all with CenturyLink modem

I have tried everything. I've done every trick in the book - I cannot get the server to connect to remote clients no matter what I do. The answer to almost every question you might have for me is Yes. I've tried everything documented in Plex support pages.

I periodically am able to get connected through an "Indirect" connection - but my status page always shows that I have No remote connectivity. Yes - I have a Static IP. I've turned firewall completely off on all involved devices. No antivirus, VPN, Proxy, etc. Port forwarding does not work.

I started having these issues on my Comcast network about 2 weeks ago. I switched to CenturyLink over the weekend - and I have the exact same issues with CenturyLink. I have two completely separate Plex servers on my network - both on completely different systems - and they are both having this same Remote Access issue. I'm running a Plex DVR Beta on an iMac (version 1.2.0.2838). I am also running a current production release of Plex on my QNAP server (version 1.2.6.2975). My CenturyLink modem is a "technicolor C2100T" modem.

Any suggestions beyond what has been documented in the Plex forums and help pages? Anything else I can try?

Finding the bottleneck

Hey,

I have had some live transcoding performance issues so I am trying to figure out where the bottleneck truely is so I can plan out my next server (not sure if im sticking with apple or not for the next setup).

Here is my current setup
Mac mini (i5 about 5 yrs old? can check later), hard cable LAN connection to Airport Extreme router
Drobo 5D connected via Thunderbolt, no cache SSD installed currently, 5 HDDs currently installed
Raspberry Pi 3 frontend connected via Wireless N running RasPlex

I also have iTunes running that streams to Apple TVs. Any media that I have pre-transcoded in handbrake seems to stream through plex without issue, but with live transcodes i get maybe 30 sec of video, long pause, 30 sec of video, long pause, etc.

I know the mac mini is old and slow, but I have no idea if the Drobo itself could be too slow. Is there any way I could monitor Thunderbolt throughput to see if its maxing out? kinda like windows performance monitor shows for LAN?
Where does the transcoding happen? if its in RAM, i have 8GB installed, is it possible that going to 16 could fix this? or if it is happening on the mac minis internal HDD, should I look into going to an SSD?
I could try a newer mac mini with an i7 but im concerned about investing just to find out that nope still too slow, plus the mac mini gets real noisy when that fan spins up for live transcoding.
If the mac mini just doesnt have the power for it, I could look into used mac pro, imac, etc or am I just better off building a linux/windows home server for this?

I'm looking to replace my ReplayTV that gave up the ghost, and one of the features that I use most is "infinite pause"; essentially pausing live tv for as long as there is available disk space on the recording system (which will now likely a very large NAS). I want to find a DVR solution that will allow for that (use the available disk space AND free the space when live TV is resumed).

Does anyone know if Plex DVR allows for that?
