So, I figured out how to omit a Library from On Deck and Recently Added by clicking the pencil icon next to the library name, selecting advanced, and unticking the 'include in dashboard' box in PMS. However, when I search for videos contained in that library, they appear in the results. How can I prevent this from happening?
Quick help needed: How do I omit search results from a specific library?
CERT: Error in TLS handshake: sslv3 alert certifcate unknown
I have been testing with PMS v1.8.1.4140 for the hardware transcoding. So far it worked well, but since the recent web player update on plex.tv/web I get the following error in the logs: CERT: Error in TLS handshake: sslv3 alert certificate unknown
However, everything seems to be working, including the web player and it also show a green lock indicating everything should be fine.
Anyone else having this issue? Is there a solution for it as it kind of floods the logs.
Missing Movies on Server
Hey there everyone,
I have searched and checked and reviewed everything I can to find an answer. So far I have nothing.
I recently upgraded from a 2012 Quad Core i7 MacMini Server with a 4TB Lacie Tbolt 2 External drive as my PMS to a 2010 MacPro Tower 12 Core with Dual 8TB WD Reds in RAID 1 built in now.
Both devices were running the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and had the Mac Server App running as well.
I have 382 files but only 294 movies are showing up and that number actually dropped a couple times while it was scanning.
I have everything named according to the conventions as well as the folders organized how Plex recommends.
all were ripped using MakeMkv and all still show up on the new drive.
Prior to the move everything was fine and showed all the files in PMS.
To transfer the files I hooked up the old drive to a SATA Port in the MacPro Tower and copied over (so i still have the original drive).
I have tried deleting the library from PMS and rescanning multiple times, even uninstall and reinstall of PMS, also restart of the machine several times.
Please help? almost 100 movies are missing and this is quite annoying.
I attached both the Verbose and Enabled Log that i had to this point. Plus SC of the number of files and the folder structure.
EDIT: added regular log as PMS Logs as i see Verbose isn't needed unless specifically requested.
Using Local Metadata
For years, I've built a sizable MP4 library and had used MetaX to "tag" all of them. I'd prefer to have Plex use this metadata instead of having it always looking for it online, but I've yet to figure out how to get this done.
I'm running this on an iMac with an older version of OSX (I don't know if this matters).
If anyone has any step-by-step instructions (PLEASE don't leave one out!) as how to do this, I'd be much obliged!
grey triangle in upper left corner
On a number of movies there is a grey box in the corner with a number in it. However that movie isn't a collection and the movies that are collections it doesn't link anything or group them together, rather clicking it simply puts a check in a circle.
Please advise
movies misidentified
I have a number of movies that Plex has defaulted to a current version of the movie. Examples would be the Mummy with brenden frazier vs the Tom Cruise reboot. Same for Ghostbusters and others that have been rebooted.
Also how do I manually select a different poster image? For movies with sequels it doesn't find the right poster. Example Back to the future II. Prior media server required collections required collections to be names back to the future.back to the future II
Also I thought I read in support that it supports .nfo files for optional data.
Also how do I add custom genres? I have a number of movies that I would like to group with a custom genre.
Also how to I create library folders for TV Shows and personal video?
Fresh install, DLNA not visible on any clients
Please forgive me if this has been answered already, but I couldn't find anything that helped. I just installed PMS on my Hackintosh file server running Mavericks 10.9.5. I had been running Universal Media Server and was having playback issues on the clients. I completely quit UMS when I started running PMS, but even after verifying that the DLNA is running, None of my clients see PMS. I have the Plex app installed on my android phone and it works beautifully. I also have a DLNA app on the same phone, but it cannot see the PMS at all. I also have a Sony BDP-S3700 that could also see the server running UMS, but won't see PMS.
I don't have any other DLNA server software running on my machine. I turned off the firewall. I quit and restarted the PMS. Basically, I tried all the recommendations I could find, with no luck. I did try installing PMS on my windows machine and it works great. That leads me to believe that the problem is on the mac. I just can't figure it out. I checked out the DLNA log and the info is posted below..

Daily "There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard"
For the past few weeks, I've been more and more frequently getting the "There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard" message on the web and web based clients (the new Plex Media Player on Mac & PC especially). I can usually resolve it with a server restart or in extreme cases a DB repair based on the instructions here but for the past couple days I've repaired the database multiple times and the error returns within a few hours.
Does anyone have any solutions for this other than deleting the DB and treating the server as new?
I'm also curious if it's due to the size of my media library. I have over 26,000 TV episodes and about 2,700 movies totaling nearly 30TB. Does anyone else with a large media library have this issue? Is my library considered large compared to other users?
Thank you!
Duplicate Path Issue After Media Move
I recently consolidated my movie library from two drives onto a single one. Since the transfer resulted in an array of duplicate files, I opted to find/replace the paths in the database. This worked fine, but now I have two identical paths listed for my library, and if I try to remove the duplicate and save the change, Plex automatically adds it back in immediately after save. Any ideas how to stop Plex from forcing the duplicate?
Everything operates perfectly fine, it's just a bit of a nuisance and I'd prefer to know it's fixed to eliminate the possibility of a conflict in the future.
Plex server remains "offline"
Hello All,
Yesterday I installed my first Plex server on iMac and all is working fine locally (using a local connection via 127.0.0.1). Still, I install the App on iPhone or AppleTV, in the app the server appears but it shows "connecting" for several seconds, followed by "offline".
I checked and AppleTV, iPhone and iMac are on the same subnet (192.168.0.0/24). The iMac IP is 192.168.0.5 and connecting locally via Safari via 192.168.0.5 works OK.
Do you have any ideas why the iPhone and AppleTV can see the server (it appears on the list) but cannot connect to it (continuously trying to "connect", showing "offline" and trying again and again).
many thanks!
TV shows are merging. Why?
Background... Server hardware is a 2011 Mac mini with a 4-bay Drobo attached via USB which is where the media is stored. I started using Plex about a year and a half ago, I think, maybe longer. Prior to that I was using iTunes to manage my library and was streaming it to other TVs in the house via Apple TV. When I switched to Plex I continued to use iTunes to manage things and it generally worked well. About six months ago I decided to stop recompressing MKV files into MP4/M4V files, which meant I had to stop using iTunes for management, which was fine. I created a second folder structure (on the Drobo) for MKV files and things were working well enough.
Eventually I decided to ditch iTunes altogether. I started moving TV shows out of iTunes and into that second folder structure. When I did this, I discovered that Plex was merging TV shows in an odd way. For example, I could move "Monty Python's Flying Circus" into the secondary folder and Plex would have no issues with it, but when I then added "MASH" to that secondary folder Plex would insert those MASH episodes into the MPFC episodes. When I looked at Plex's TV series I would see only MPFC but it would have hundreds of episodes, a mixture of MPFC and MASH episodes. If I were to repeat the process but move MASH first, then the MPFC episodes would similarly be inserted into the MASH episodes. I posted about this elsewhere but didn't get any solution, so I mostly ignored it.
About a week ago I decided to completely overhaul my Plex server and ditch iTunes completely. I reformatted my Mac mini's hard drive (the Drobo was untouched), clean-installed macOS Sierra (was previously running El Capitan), clean-installed the current versions of PMS and PMP, and got to work. I (very carefully) moved everything out of the iTunes folder, properly named all of the files and folders according to the Plex guidelines (with help from FileBot), and when everything was nicely in order I pointed PMS to the newly-organized folders and let it run overnight (last night).
All of the movies came through without a hitch, but ALL of the TV shows -- every show, every episode -- is collected under "Looney Tunes". If you go into Looney Tunes there are thousands of episodes from every TV show that I have -- MPFC, Looney Tunes, MASH, Transformers, Game of Thrones, Justice League, and more. Literally 100% of my TV episodes are filed under "Looney Tunes". What's even more odd is, if I remove my "Looney Tunes" folder from the designated Plex folder and then update the TV library, Plex STILL lists them all as Looney Tunes episodes even though, at that point, there are literally ZERO Looney Tunes episodes on my Plex server.
I was thinking that it might be some kind of issue with the metadata in those video files, perhaps something that iTunes did. But many of the TV shows that I have had never been in iTunes before. They were ripped from DVD or BluRay then moved into the "Plex-only" folder so there are no iTunes tags anywhere in them.
I have no idea what to do now. My folder structure and file naming is spot-on, guaranteed. There are no stray hyphens anywhere, everything follows the "SxxExx" format, and there is no odd punctuation or characters that could be interpreted as wildcards (* or ! or ? or things like that).
Plex keeps closing
Ever since the latest update, Plex randomly closes itself down. I don't believe it is crashing, just closing. When I open it back up everything is fine but then it will close itself down again within the next few hours. What is going on?
How to name/serve 1930s-50s Movie serials?
Creating a new section for them called Serials and defined as "TV" type works nicely in that you can use standard TV-naming protocol and the movie poster is found and the movie lists as a TV series (Season 1 obviously ) with all the episodes numbered and individually described, BUT IF AND ONLY IF the Serial is a very popular one, like Flash Gordon (1936) for example (probably because it has been on TV so much as "Space Soldiers"). Less famous movie Serials are either not found at all or wrongly and weirdly matched. 2/3 of serials are not ID'ed in TV by the Plex Media Server scanner. Largely a mess. I think I remember "G-Men vs. The Black Dragon (1943)" getting picked up as "Black Oil" or something. "Battling With Buffalo Bill (1931)" got picked up as the Buffalo Bill sitcom with Dabney Coleman. Many were worse.
Instead, create the new Serials section as a "Movies" type, and VIRTUALLY ALL Serials are ID'ed, popular or not. The posters and main movie descriptions are found, but each of the episodes is simply treated as a duplicate of the movie. You wind up with the movie poster and a superimposed number indicating the total number of chapters. Not bad. Thus you can choose a Serial and then choose an episode, but the list is something like:
480p MPEG2VIDEO
480p MPEG2VIDEO
480p MPEG2VIDEO
480p MPEG2VIDEO
etc.
i.e. all the same. No episode numbers or descriptions of the episodes (chapters) so scrolling up and down the list to find a specific episode is difficult at best.
Using the alternative Plex video file scanner and removing the movie's (YEAR) so the episode #s are read results in each episode being treated as a separate movie, too big a main screen, and still no episode descriptions because they're either not in the data bases or are not being looked for by the Plex scanner.
If anyone has played with using Plex Media Server for Serials and has suggestions I'd like to hear from you.
All media stopped working after update
I updated my PMS on my Mac this evening to Version 1.8.1.4139-c789b3fbb. Afterwards none of my movies or TV shows are accessible. They show up on the menu as if they are there, but when I try to play them I get various errors such as
There was an unexpected error loading this item
OR
Content Unavailable: Sorry, We couldn't load the requested content
This happens both of my Roku's, PMS on my Mac, and my iPad. I have deleted and reinstalled PMS, deleted and reinstalled the libraries, reset the Roku, Reset the computer, and reset the router.
Any ideas?
Oh, and the media seems to work fine if I move it to my MacBook running PMS Version 1.7.5.4035-313f93718
Plex Transcoder running at ~70-80% cpu usage even if there is no playback at all
From time to time Plex starts Plex Transcoder on my Mac mini (late 2012) and using at least 6 cores out of the 8 available that leading to ~70-80% average cpu usage.
I've checked the status page on the web interface, there is (really) no active session on the Now Playing page at that time (what is not surprising as I'm the only user of it usually and actually not watching movies
Any tip what could cause this?
Thank you in advance!
Plex is merging M*A*S*H and Monty Python, no idea why.
I recently started moving my media out of iTunes and into a manually organized system. I selected MASH as the first migration because it's one of the largest series I have. There were no problems with this. I moved the MASH folder from the "iTunes Library" folder into my "Media/TV" folder, then deleted the entry from iTunes, then renamed all of the folders and episodes to conform to Plex's requirements (e.g., "MASH - s01e02 - To Market, to Market.m4v"). I updated my TV library in Plex and it found and properly sorted and tagged every episode. Complete success.
I then moved on to Monty Python's Flying Circus. I performed the same steps as I did with MASH, but when I updated my TV library in Plex it decided to put all of the MPFC episodes into MASH. I removed the "Media/TV" folder from my source list to clear everything out, then tried again. Same results.
I switched the order around, first putting in MPFC and then MASH, and it did the same thing: MPFC was added/sorted/tagged properly, then MASH came in as additional episodes of MPFC.
I thought perhaps the apostrophe in "Python's" had something to do with it, so I deleted the apostrophe and started the process over again but got the same results. Ditto for the asterisks in "MAS*H".
I then pulled "Game of Thrones" from iTunes and moved it to my "Media/TV" folder in the same way, and it too behaved the same way as the others. If I add GoT first, then add MASH or MPFC, they all show up as additional episodes in GoT.
Any ideas?
After last update my plex server is no longer accessible externally
Hello, everyone. I just updated my server only to notice that external access is no longer working. My port forwarding is still in order in my router. Nothing changed except the update. Anyone else experiencing this?
Suitable Plex Server Hardware
I really want to use Plex as it's probably the best single source app for media, but I can't seem to get it to run well.
I first tried installing the server software on a Synology NAS that was a little underpowered. When trying to stream to my Apple TV I got lots of pixelation / buffering / error messages, etc. So I moved everything to a new, much more powerful Synology NAS. Better, but still not really useable (music is fine, video is problematic). So I then moved everything to a 2010 iMac. Still doesn't work well.
What exactly do I need to get this server app to stream well to my Apple TV? It's the only way I can think of to WATCH the content but I'm guessing that ALL video seems to need to be transcoded to watch . . .
Can't remove unavailable media.
When I add content to my PMS, I usually dump a ton of files into my server, then use an application to rename the files.
However, after the files have been renamed, I can't seem to remove the old file entry from the XML.
Things I've tried.
1.) Refresh
2.) Turbo Scan
3.) Deep Scan
4.) Analyze
5.) Force Refresh
6.) Empty Trash (Which yields: There was a problem emptying the trash for TV Shows.)
The only way I can get the content to delete, is if I enable "Clients can delete files" and delete each entry one by one. (Which, on hundreds of files, will take WAY too long)
Not sure what logs would be needed here, and I have tons of them. So I've uploaded them all for you here: http://level42.ca/files/Plex%20Logs.zip
Error: Couldn't retrieve the play queue for this item
Im suddenly getting the "Couldn't retrieve the play queue for this item" error when I try to access my channels through my iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. It worked perfectly before, but not anymore.
Using latest Plex server version 1.4.4.3495
Also using latest Plex apps on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
I can use and stream my channels if I use the Plex web app (browser), but not if I use the iOS apps. Content such as series and movies are working without any problems - its only for my channels.
I already tried disabling secure connections, but that didn't help.
Any help or suggestions?
