So every so often my PMS computer will start to get really hot and the fans will come on full blast. I check Activity Monitor and Plex New Transcoder is using all the energy. There will be nothing playing and no activity, not devices performing mobile sync. I noticed that when that happens the PMS menu in the menu bar will report that something is being transcoded. I end up just killing it to stop whatever is happening (usually because I'm trying to sleep and the fans are waking me up). I read about this and the answer seemed to be that we can't know what is currently being done in the background. Is there any way to tell and to make it not do it if no one is watching anything? I don't mind during the day but at night when the fans suddenly kick on full blast and wake me up (I'm a very light sleeper)...it's annoying.
