I have been using plex for a while and for some time ago i started to run into quite a bit of buffering problems and i dont see any reason why.
I have a mac mini which runs the media client and a macbook pro where the media server is running on. I'm using a wireless network where the router is right next to the mac mini and im the only one using the network.. there should be more than enough bandwidth and the router is of a pretty good brand.
What happens is that i can start watching a movie and then sometimes it start buffering 20 seconds out in the movie, or sometimes it starts buffering in the middle or almost at the end of the movie without having been buffering before that. I'm not downloading anything so im keeping the bandwidth clear for plex to use and i dont have any heavy jobs running on either computers at the times im watching media.
I have read a couple of articles and tried to adjust the buffer settings in the plex media server but there doesnt seem to be any change.
The buffering is not constant, im often able to watch entire movies or several tv show episodes without any problems. Some movies though seems to be buffering more than others so i for example never stream 1080p content from youtube although it should fine it starts to buffer on plex but it doesnt buffer at all when im using using the browser on the macbook.
Sometimes several movies buffer and sometimes it starts to buffer 15 minutes into the movie which is really annoying.
Does someone have any ideas on what might be wrong ? Im a system administrator by day so i think ive covered by basies pretty good and i dont see why i should have any problems.
My plex server is up-to-date and my plex client is also fairly recent. Ive tried watching the debug logs but they seem to be a little complicate to read without knowing the application better.
I have been watching the cpu and other resource information on the macbook when this problem appears but the cpu isnt even 40% and the memory doesnt indicate any level that is too high.
