I have recently repurposed my previous laptop to run Windows 10. I wiped clean the entire computer and install fesh the Windows 10. Currently, my Plex Media Server runs on a 2010 Mac Mini. Nothing else runs on the Mac at this time, just the PMS.
When comparing the CPU benchmark scores of my Mac Mini and the Windows laptop, the laptop is 2x - 3x higher score than the Mac. I have begun sharing my library with 4 people now and expect there to be some multiple streams running soon.
Below is the scores for the two processors
LAPTOP - Intel Core i7-2640M @ 2.80GHz - 3920
MAC MINI - Intel Core2 Duo P8600 @ 2.40GHz - 1556
Should I make the switch to the Windows laptop to run my Plex Media Server? It will be the only thing running on the laptop. I understand the relative complexity in moving from OSX to Windows, but I could handle that aspect.
I don't know if having a laptop as an always on machine would cause any problems either.
Seems like it would be worth it given the possible multiple steams. Most of the video in my home will be direct play.
Thanks much.
