Entire Sections of Library Get Added as New

Background: I'm a lifetime Plex Pass member running the latest preview build of Plex Media Server on a Mac Mini that is connected to a Synology, where my media is stored.

The Problem: I've been experiencing an issue for the past few years that has gotten annoying enough that I figured I should post it to see if anyone has any answers. Every couple of months, one ore more of the sections in my library will show up as all of the media were recently added. It's as if Plex forgets about everything in the section and then adds everything as new again. The watched/unwatched status of all items typically remains the same and this is perhaps thanks to the Trakt.tv plugin. This has happened to my TV, Movies and Music sections. Someimes multiple sections are affected and sometimes only one.

Analysis: I've scanned the logs to figure it out but can't seem to get the root issue. It's as if Plex scans the section and perhaps connectivity with the Synology has dropped and so the entire section is emptied out. Then the next time it scans again the Synology is connected so it picks up everything like new? But this theory doesn't make a lot of sense because I run lots of software on my Mac that is constantly accessing files on the Synology and I have never experienced such issues. In fact I wrote a cron job that manually connects all of my network shares every 5 seconds in order to make sure this doesn't happen.

Has anyone else experienced this annoying phenomenon and are there any solutions?
