Local subtitles (.srt) not getting added

I've got an issue with local .srt subtitles randomly not getting added to the videos. My setup is following:

OS:

  • macOS Sierra 10.12 beta (latest release)

Libraries (all videos are stored in an external USB drive):

  • USB Movies
  • USB TV Shows
  • Pictures

Inside each folder defining a library each movie or tv shows has its own sub-folder with the video(s) (one for a movie, more for a show) and the subtitles. I also usually assign the same name to the mps/mkv video and the corresponding subtitle (with no .en sub extension). And it always worked.

Then yesterday I added a new tv show, 13 episodes. It couldn't fetch the subtitles automatically from opensubtitles, so I downloaded them and added them manually. Each episode has now its own subtitles (one or more for each episode). My library automatically refresh when modified and the subtitles didn't show. I did all possible refreshes, library updates, whatever. Nothing. I tried to move the TV Show's folder out of the library folder, update the library in Plex, put it back in the library folder, refresh/update, added the .en subextension, removed it, changed name of a couple of videos and their subtitles, nothing.

I checked the log file for subtitles in the macOS console, searching for the TV Show name, and there were entries from 15 minutes earlier and then nothing. The bizarre thing is that all other info (like the episodes description or the posters did get downloaded from the Internet).

After a couple of hours of experiemtns (with my great frustration) I've finally found a way that unstuck the subtitles. More ore less I followed these steps:

  • In Settings/Server/Agents I moved the Local Media Assets for Shows/TheTVDB to the bottom
  • Moved the TV Show folder out of the library folder
  • The library automatically refresh but I also did the manual refresh
  • In the settings above I've put the Local Media Assets back to the top
  • Moved the TV show folder back into the library folder
  • Refreshed

The subtitles finally appeared!!

So this is more of a bug report than a question. The problem is that checking in Internet it seems an old issue, and similar issues keep happening . It is more like if the refresh doesn't work for all Movies/TV Shows.
