HTTP for local clients, HTTPS for remote clients..

This may have been asked before, but can't find it. Also its a question for PMS on all platforms, but I use Mac OSX.

I want to expose my PMS outside my network using Remote Access.

To do this securely, you need to enable 'Secure Connections > Always' for Clients. Otherwise all your remote plex browsing/playback happens over the internets in the clear, exposing access tokens for the world to see..

By turning on 'Secure Connections > Always' it enforces secure connections, but also for local clients (on my home network). I use Chromecasts (v1 and v2) for my playback, and have found that when playing HBR 720 or 1080 content over a secure connection, the playback is unusable (Jittery and unpredictable, both CC over WiFi and wired via USB dongle). This is due to the CC (v1 & v2) bnot being powerful enough to handle the HTTPS encryption/decryption load for HBR video/audio.

I would like to know if it is possible (using just PMS and no other proxying SW) to enforce HTTPS (Secure) connections from remote clients, and HTTP (non-secure) connections on my local clients. I know that there is a setting that allows both secure and insecure, but this allows insecure connections from remote clients also. I can't find any way to force remote connections to be secure, but allow un-secure connections for local clients.

I know it is possible for PMS to recognise the difference between remote and local clients. If you looks at the WebHook Doco, the event includes and indicator if the client that generated the WebHook event is local or remote.

Cheers

G./
