DAMAGE CONTROL: Going back to fix the file structure

Hey all,

I have about 1950 files in my Plex server - a mix of feature films and TV shows. I originally migrated to Plex after outgrowing the Apple TV's "Computers" app about 2 years ago which clearly had some major limitations. As I was trying out Plex, I just kept the files in the iTunes directory as they were, eventually growing the Plex library and eventually letting Plex take over entirely. Now I'm a devoted Plex Pass lifetime member, loving this system so much. iTunes is only used for Music these days (which I know Plex can do too, but I have my reasons).

That being said, now I have a giant mess of files in one iTunes > Movies directory - being a combination of .m4v and .srt files. I started creating subdirectories for each movie to group the two files together, and also add alternate versions. But it's honestly a pain to do it one by one. Before I truly commit to the process, is there something I can be made aware of that can help me streamline this process? Like, iTunes can manage files for you. But can Plex be made to do the same? If not, is there any scripted workflows (ie: Automator for Mac) or apps that can do this for me?

Also, is there a way I can prevent some of these movies from making their way to the Recently Added category with reverted metadata? I'd love to preserve the metadata as I edited it, and keeping the movies as watched and far down the recently added list as they were.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)
