Plex Server 0.9.12.19 freezing crashes MAC when syncing new iPad

Good Morning,

Searched through the forums and haven't been able to find a fix. Let me try to outline the problem with solutions that I have tried.

  1. Got a new iPad Air 2 running iOS 9.1. Installed the latest version of Plex for iOS. Logged into my account and tried to sync some shows. After syncing a few shows on the iPad, my MacPro (10.9.2) running Plex 0.9.12.19 froze. No response from mouse, keyboard, anything.

  2. Rebooted the Mac. As soon as I ran plex on the iPad again and it connected to Plex to start syncing the Mac froze again.

  3. Started browsing the forum looking for a solution. Found a thread about Plex freezing when a user connected a Roku device. The accepted solution was to "analyze" all of the plex libraries.

  4. In order to keep the Mac from freezing, I closed (by swiping up) Plex on the iPad. I have 8 libraries (or something close without looking) so I went into each library on the Mac and selected the option to analyze each library again.

  5. As soon as I opened Plex on the iPad and it started syncing again, the Mac froze completely.

  6. Rebooted the Mac and launched Console to start looking at the Plex Media Server log. Looked through the log but didn't see anything that looked suspicious. The iPad that is causing the freeze is called "Nexus2" which has the IP address 10.0.1.34. I did see one line in the log that lists it. Having said that, I'm no expert so there is a good chance I didn't know what I was looking for.

  7. To try to get some idea of what was going on, I cleared the log (which then automatically added a marker for reference). I noted the timestamp on the marker for reference. I then started Plex on the iPad. While watching the log file, it made some entries and then the Mac froze again. I rebooted the Mac and went back into the Console to look for the marker that had been previously created. Here comes the first big problem. The marker was missing and so were all the entries that had been made just prior to the freeze. I guess due to the freeze, none of those entries were recorded by Console.

  8. The only thing I could think to do was take a photograph of the screen after the freeze (attached at bottom of post). Unfortunately I could't capture any of the entries that had scrolled past the top of the screen.

  9. Next step was to delete all synced content from Plex on the iPad. Did that, rebooted the Mac, and once again the Mac froze as soon as I opened Plex on the iPad.

  10. Completely deleted Plex app on the iPad and reinstalled. Logged back into Plex on iPad and even though there was no synced content, it still froze the Mac as soon as it connected.

  11. Rebooted again and didn't start Plex on the iPad so that the Mac wouldn't freeze again. Started looking through some older entries to see what I could figure out. There is a line that says the following:

DEBUG - Sync: sync list (numbers): user (numbers) (my email address), profile iOS, device (device name), sync item(s): (list of numbers).

That same line existed for several devices of mine as well as for some of my friends whom I've created accounts for. The interesting part is that the line that corresponded to my new iPad had several numbers which I assume are the Plex ID for specific shows or movies. Even though I had deleted all the sync entries in Plex on the iPad, Plex Media server still thought I was trying to sync those items.

Is there a way to "reinitialize" what Plex Media server thinks each of the devices that connects should be syncing?

I know this has been long and drawn out but hopefully this can provide some insight. I have attached the photo of the screenshot I took of the console right after the freeze. If this isn't enough information to diagnose the problem, I can always upload the PMS log when I get home tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to read through this.

Regards,

Dominik
