After fooling around with Infuse, which seems to be a lot of work, I decided to try Plex. It imported the vast majority of my 950 “Movies” (some of the Movies are DVD extras) and was excellent in doing so. But, not perfect. In a few cases that I’ve discovered so far, a DVD Extra was imported, but not the Movie.
All of my Movies are maintained on a Drobo under “itunes media/movies/name of movie folder/name of movie”. All of the movies are .m4v or .mp4, and there are just a handful that are DRM protected (I’m not worrying about those). The movies were ripped from DVD’s using Handbreak or Mac DVD Ripper Pro.
While the missing movies (Shaun of the Dead and Silver Linings Playbook, for example) aren’t in Plex, there’s one or more DVD extras that did get imported. And, while I’ve not figured out “Channels” yet, both movies ARE there under “iTunes".
I just downloaded the AppleTV app and discovered that there’s a “Play version” feature, which doesn’t list the movies, just the rate — and in both of the examples, the Movies (Shaun of the Dead and Silver Linings Playbook) the Movies ARE available, just not readily identifiable. (So, I went back to my Mac and found that there is an option to look at a different version there, too, and the movies ARE there, just not identified as such).
Plex is running on a Late 2012 Mac Mini running the current vers. of El Capitan, and all the Movies are on the Drobo.
Thanks for any help.
