Hello,
I know very little about computers or Plex, so would appreciate jargon/technical free answer, to the extent possible.
I recently did two things: (1) upgraded Plex Media Server to the latest version and (2) reorganized my media files to better follow the plex naming conventions (i.e., before I didn't even have TV shows and Movies separated). Now, when I open Plex, I get an error message that says "Unable to connect to [computer]. We tried to connect to [IP address]. You are signed in as [user name]. Your Plex Media Server and device are on different subnets. This may cause communication issues depending on the network setup."
I have tried logging out on both the app and the computer and logging back in, but that did not help.
My media is on an external hard drive connected to my computer on the 3rd floor. On the 2nd floor is my ATT modem/router, with an Apple extreme connected to it (not sure this is relevant). On the 1st floor is the TV, receiver, blu ray player, amazon fire and an apple express. In other words, I don't think I have a particularly unique/difficult network setup, and in any case it's not any different than the set up has been the past several years. I don't know what a subnet is, but am not sure why Plex Media Server and the device (=Amazon Fire?) would now be on separate ones.
