Looked for ages about this but couldn't come up with a single consolidated post that covered everything. I looked in the wikki too but no joy. I'd guess there are common settings that need to be made to a Mac Mini running Plex if its sole job is as a 24/7 server, attached to a TV via HDMI but in my case, mostly accessed by IOS devices and Apple TV. Found a few posts that skirted around the issues and some seem to contradict each other. Surely though there must be some kind of 'best practice'? My external drive attached to the Mac is a standard powered USB3 HDD bay. Things I've set or got queries on so far:
1) Mac set to automatically log in after a power failure
2) Mac assigned a static / reserved address in the router
3) Plex set to start up at Login
4) Power Saving:
a) Turn display off after: Never?
Next four boxes all checked:
b) Prevent Computer Sleeping automatically when display is off: Yes
c) Put Hard Disk to sleep when possible: Yes
d) Wake for Network: Yes
e) Auto start after power failure
5) App Store: All auto checking or install updates or apps disabled.
6) iCloud not not signed in / off
7) Firewall On / Plex set to allow incoming
8) Screensaver: Never
9) Wallpaper: Plain
10) Location Services: Off
11) Bluetooth: Left on so I can fire it up to change settings / do updates etc.
12) Screen Sharing: On. Again to allow me to use the Mac Laptop to control it if I need
13) Apple Remote: Not paired. Don't really want it doing things with the Mac Mini when I can't see while I'm controlling the ATV 4 with it
14) Time / Date and Time Zone settings: Auto
15) Time Machine: Not turned on (for now)
Anything I've missed or set wrong? Some of the setting might not affect Plex at all, I just was to be sure it restarts after a power failure and that it doesn't cut out or stop or go to sleep when I don't want it to. Any comments appreciated.
