Optimal setup for sharing with friends outside the local network

Hi,

I have PMS running on a 2.6Ghz quad-core i7 Mac mini with 16GB RAM. All content stored on a Qnap NAS. Local clients include a couple of Apple TV 4's and a bunch of iPads. I am also sharing my library with three friends outside the local network.

Within the local network I have zero problems with playback. But a couple of my friends while using Plex to view content from my library are experiencing buffering problems. One said the buffering was so bad it became un-watchable.

I am on the top tier BT Infinity with 80Mb down and 20Mb up and I achieve close to these speeds. In reality I get about 76Mb down and 18Mb up.

Not sure of their internet service but I know they are both on fiber optic on at least 40Mb down. Not sure on their up speeds but I don't think that should matter. I suppose it will come down to a combination of their down speed and my up speed right?

Is there anything I can do on my end to make their experience any better. Likewise are there any settings on their end that could optimise things?

Many thanks in advance,

Damien
