I was using Plex with just a mac mini and an external hard drive plugged directly into my router. With it plugged into my router, I just downloaded files directly to the drive so I could access those files with my laptop as well. With Plex playback, it was very slow and annoying so I decided to build a Windows media server to store my moves.
Current config:
I have my Windows media server plugged into the router directly.
External drive still directly plugged into router.
Mac Mini is connected via Wifi.
What I want:
My ultimate goal is to use my Mac Mini to download files directly to my Windows Media Server via Wifi. I basically want to never have to interact with the media server directly.
The issue:
I have set my Windows Media server to have a static IP address (correctly I think). I am using my Mac Mini to transfer my files from my External Hard drive to my media server and about 4-5 minutes into the transfer the files transfer stops while saying "file cannot be written." Shortly after, the router crashes and I have to reconnect back to my router. This leads me to think that in the future when I try to download a file from the internet to the server that It would just do the same thing.
I'm not sure if this is a settings issue or if what I'm trying to do is not possible. When I am using the server and grab the files from the external hard drive, it works fine. Its just when I use the Mac Mini to do the transfer as a "middle man" everything crashes.
Any help is appreciated and sorry for the long explanation.
