I have been having trouble with my Macbook Pro getting very hot, and the fan going nuts. It was heating up to about 170+ degrees with the fan going up to 6800 RPM. I am running :
Plex Media Server 9.12.4. on a Macbook Pro: MacBookPro8,2, Intel Core i7, 2.2 GHzd, 8GB of RAM. OSX: 10.10.3
It was taking a lot of CPU Cycles. I had Plex Server auto login at startup. As soon as I turned it off, my machine dropped down to 100 degrees and 2000 RPM and that was that. I just had to have Plex Media Server running in the background. I did not have to access any media via browser or client for the computer to heat up.
I ran Plex Server on my old Macbook Pro with no issues, and it was older with less memory. Not sure why I am having this issue.
I found this thread which establishes some precedence to the problem. http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/43265/plex-old-mac-mini-and-heat
If anyone has an idea why this is happening, I would appreciate the feedback. At very least, I wanted to put this out there in case anyone else experiences the problem.
