I found a thread in the Windows forums that touched on this lightly, but I wanted to get a wider audience to see if someone has had this issue and possibly fixed it through some custom firewall/routing tables, so I am reposting here in a new discussion.
Here's my set up and situation:
PMS 0.9.15.3
Mac OS X Lion (all updates applied)
Buffalo WZR-1750DHP w/Guest Wifi configured (latest firmware installed)
When I am connected to my internal, non-Guest Wifi, I can connect securely to my PMS through https://apps.plex.tv/web/app.
When I am tethered to my cell phone, I can connect securely to my PMS through https://apps.plex.tv/web/app.
When I am connected to my Guest Wifi, I cannot connect securely to my PMS through https://apps.plex.tv/web/apps.
So, why can't I connect securely to https://apps.plex.tv/web/app through my Guest Wifi?
Someone commented on my post in the Windows forum that it is a security feature of the Guest account to not be able to communicate with my network at all. I just don't understand why it doesn't as it should go out and come back as external communication in my mind. Then again, I'm not a networking guru.
I would like to get this figured out because sometimes I have company that knows how to use Plex and they want to watch something from my library using their device, but I don't want company on my internal network.
Thanks for any help.
